I just happened upon this site a couple of days ago!

Over the last couple of years I've been building my project studio for DIY band projects. I have a dedicated P4 3.2 Ghz that I have outfitted with 10k Raptor SATA Drives and 2 Gigs of Mushkin RAM as my corner stone. My short and humble gear list:

I'm new to the group, been reading for a week or so, seems like a very pleasure group here! I'm a bit giddy tonight, just purchased my first workstation! Its a Yamaha AW16G, was leaning towards the computer DAW but started researching the SIAB's and was really impressed with the 16G. Would aprreciate any opinions and tips. Thanks!

I'm trying to decide which digital recorder to buy. I have a few general criteria:

1. The capability of producing pro-studio quality masters. (Whether or not my skills develop to that point is still to be determined.)

hi kurt and dave- have you ever thought of reviewing the abbey road preamp that Chandler offers? THis would be interesting.I dont have the number of it but this is the preamp that took over for the redd47 .Wonder what it sounds like .

It's new mic preamp time! I am looking for a solid state pre so I thought that I'd look into Great River because everyone seems to recommend them. My understanding is that the MP-2 is more of a direct wiring pre and that the MP-2NV is modelled after a 1073 but what does this mean to me sonically?

I am currently trying to find a good 10-12 channel console with a good EQ section. I currently have a Peavey VMP-2 preamp, an otari 1/2" 8 track reel to reel, Shure Sm7, Sm 57(3), AT 4033, and EV686. I am looking to do some demos as well as little projects with friends.

I've done a search for this topic in this forum and many others, but I have yet to find anything that pertained to my particular situation. Up until this point, I've been self taught via books/manuals and forums. I hope this question isn't too ignorant.

I originally posted this as a follow-on to my 24i/o question, but decided this is a topic of its own. As my personal preference tends toward tracking through channel strips--and 8 channels at a time max, my thinking is moving away from the 24 i/o as a central hub to acquiring a Soundcraft LX7II/24, and using it in a split configuration with a 8x8 DAW interface.
