Lowering amp noise
Forums
Hey there, Im running a small studio in my house, and I find that my Peavey studio 112 amp is a lot noiser in my house than it was in the store :(
its really not an issue for recording, as the noise doesnt carry over into my recordings so much, its just white noise from EMI etc
I'd just leave it alone, but it kind of annoys me when Im just playing around with my guitar

New, need help with technical lingo
Forums
Hi,
I'm eager to learn about recording and perhaps becoming a sort of acoustical engineer, I find this site to be so helpful! I was reading an article on EQing drums and I quote:
"SNARE: I usually cut 1k about 3dB, and roll off anything under 600hz using the high pass filter, in the mids only. THen I select the 80 hz or 100 hz shelf if its available."

accenting freq thru subtractive EQ
Forums
Is there a "science" to subtractive EQ where cutting in a specific area "boosts" or accentuates a higher area of freqiencies?
Let say, for example I cut 3dB at 125-250Hz and then I hear it as if I boosted at 3000-4000 Hz. (Just an example)

I am finally buying the components for my system this weekend, and am wondering if there are any changes that you would recommend in the following configuration? (there are also some questions, embedded within the list with arrows).

amplifying
Forums
hi!
I've just aquired a soundcard for home recording, but I plugged a synth to its input ports and the signal is somehow weak. I talked to the support people where I bought it and they say it's an amplifying issue, that I should get, as a good solution, a mixer, at least with a few channels.

I want to express gratitude to friends and Romans alike, merely to acknowledge the helpful nature of readers on this board.
More, that folks seem to abstain from flame (maybe even when it'd actually be called for) I know I can improve my question-asking-skill!
thinking of getting (MAudio Audiophile 2496 )?

Does anyone know how to get away w/ dimmer lights in studio?
Forums
I was recently considering putting dimmer lights in my home studio. I wanted DJ type lights; where I would buy a lighting console and have many multi colored lights attached to them. Then I could program the lights to strobe and dI'm constantly.
