Loose drummer
The members of my band are good musicians, even my drummer is creative, but he plays loose--at least to the other three members' ears. When I say loose, I mean he loses time on some (about 2/3) of his fills, but he can keep a straight beat. His high-hat will usually stay straight through the bad fills, and he can keep damn good time with a metronome but his tom work is lack-luster at best.

Pro ToolsLE (Athlon or P4)
Im building a new computer to runs Pro Tools LE with extensive processing. Prolly 1 GB of RAM. But the question is Athlon XP or Pentium 4. I'm looking at something around the 2.0-2.5 GHz range. Also a good motherboard to go with it. Thanks, Jeremy

I want
http://www.Tascam.com/products/computer_recording/fw1884/index.php
Now that I will most likely be gainfully employed (depends on passport and work visa's) with a healthy income, I'll be able to afford that cool Tascam FW-1884, and dump my 428...
:p:

Thoughts on the Shure KSM44
I'm really trying to research my next vocal mic, and the ksm44 was suggested here, but I'd like a few more impressions before I make the purchase.
Thanks, Jake

Signal processing order. revisited
I know Kurt has addressed this, and I know it was recently (within a few months) but I can't find it anywhere. So I can't 'revisit' it.
So, can you guys re-state your preferred chain of events when setting up tracks. Vocal, Guitar, Drums. etc. Or Just Vocals.
ie. signal->compression-eq-reverb
signal->gate-eq-compression-compression-reverb

Combining outputs
Hi,
I need to combine outputs to a single input, and I've read in more than one place that a using a y-cable is a really bad idea, since you are feeding the two outputs into each other.
What's the solution? A mixer would be to cumbersome, and anything powered is going to add noise.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Jonathan El-Bizri

Ethics of "touching up" Live concerts?
Recently me and a fellow group of (relatively) inexperienced musicians threw a concert... (It was a sort of farewell for three of the band members who were going overseas to study) and we got it recorded.

Studer D820x 1/4" 2-Track DASH
Anyone knows this machine? I might have a chance to buy it cheap and I'm wondering what it's good for. In 1989 it was considered one of the best mastering decks but I don't know much about features and sound quality compared to what's available today.

Ghost 2003 Spanning
Opus, my first attempt with ghost2003 to image my os drive did not work as the spanning option would not go past the first CD. Any idea why I can't get spanning to work? I tried several times and yes, I selected spanning in the options. I must be missing something here.
