Our school has a vocally talented group of 8th graders. Their choir director would like to do a recording of the group before the school year ends that could be distributed to the families of the kids...not for sale, but for keepsake...although we'd still like to capture the best recording we can...Both the choir director and I are amateur at best, but we're both fairly technical people...

I'm considering a harmonics based plugin called Kramer Tape from Waves for $99. Has anyone tried it? Is it doing what you want to do? I'd like to smooth out the digital signal on the master. In comparison, Reel Tape Saturation from Avid Digidesign runs about three times as much. Is there that much difference?

I need to record lectures and conferences. As this is for personal use, I don't want to buy the semi-professional camcorders, which are the only ones that can use an external microphone.

i was talking to a dude the other day that was telling me if the IC chip was replaced in my AT 3035, it'd only cost a few bucks for the new chip, and it'd be easy to to. Benfits he said, would be lower noise floor, and increased headroom.

I didn't know in what category to ask this question so I put it here. I was wondering about how you "keep the rights" to things like nature/field recordings. Can you get a copyright to sound clips (not music) ?
