Unbalanced/Balanced Mixer Connections

I have a Peavey PV14 mixer that I am trying to incorporate into my mix/match home setup. I have some questions regarding balanced/unbalanced ins and outs. I would like to run either my control room or main outs (1/4" TRS L/R) to a basic home stereo receiver as a cheap/easy way to power some 100-150W speakers.

getting better sound with 44/16/24 than 48/24

hi,

am using a mini-me and a Audio-Technica (at3035).
working with cubase.

I was wondering how come i can't get a good sound setting and keep having better result using 44/16/24 than 48/24 khz. The sound quality when using 48/24 is really bad considering everything i have. any1 know anything i could do or anything about the Apogeemini-me and how to set it well?

Mix down problems

I am using Pro Tools TDM 6.4.9. I am having a problem that for some inexplicable reason, when I bounce a song to disk that has two guitars in it, the guitar that is panned left is almost muted when i play back the new file. Also, I find that on some other tracks, all of my panning is removed and everything stays in the center after I bounce. Any ideas?

Homemade Clean Boost

Here is a fun little idea that I had whilst sitting on the crapper (don't you get all your great ideas here?) and now I really want to do it. Basically I just want a simple one knob line boost to boost my guitar signal cleanly before it hits the amp. What components would I need? How much would it cost me? Is this a realistic goal?

Process for setting up a good monitor mix

I'm skiing down the learning curve when it comes to mixing live sound (I'm the designated engineer for my band). Last gig the monitor mix was a disaster. My bass volume was maxed at the board yet I was completely covered by the other instruments. I couldn't hear myself and felt I was playing on autopilot. Not a fun gig!

NEED MORE INPUTS!

I recently broke the bank and bought an Apogeerosetta 800. Problem is, I've got something like 28 channels i need to squeze into it. Any suggestions on a clean budjet mixer to tide me over till I can afford a Symphony card & an AD16? I was thinking about an allen n heath board or a Mackie onyx but most of the 8 bus mixers cost as much as the AD16 and make it a moot purchase.
