How does it sound for the Mastering?

I've read so many reviews lately I'm about ready to give up recording all together. I have settled on a MOTU 2408mk3 and the Focusrite OctoPre.

Yay or nay?

MOTU 2408mk3
Any experience with MOTU A/D's?
Same quality as the MOTU 828mk2?
Anything in the same price range comparable/better?

I'm familiar with the features and specs of these units but I'm looking to hear from people who have used either or both of them. They are both high-endboxes, the STT1 offers the valve routing, etc. Preferences? Dislikes?

Seems like the "POD" of mic preamps to me...color me skeptical but willing to listen to a unit someone else owns.

Has anyone at AES checked it out?

Has anyone heard the new Focusrite Pre Pack yet? It's got 4 channels of Neve pres. Looks pretty sweet. Comments?

Hey folks, just wondering if anyone has any experience with the Focusrite G1. I've got a potential deal on one, but would be buying it unheard.

I've liked everything else they've ever made, so on reputation alone it stands well.

Hi, what a great group! I'm considering a Focusrite 428 Pre pack because it looks like the most useful front end preamp to bypass my digi001 preamp and converters. (via ADAT) I like the Focusrite sound tho I don't have too much to compare it to. At about 2K is there something else I ought to be looking at? This is my first "bigger" preamp purchase so i want to invest. :w:

I was wondering if I should go with the MOTU 896 with built in pre's or break the system up and get something like the MOTU 2408 and a Focusrite 8 chanel pre with built in compression and limiting. The 24 i/o looks interesting too, but it may be a little expensive for me initially. Opinionsand feedback would be great. :confused:
