What is the best for recording electric guitar?
When i record my band, the bassplayer goes into the board thru a direct box.
I dont have a speaker emulator or box to record my guitar with.
What is the cheapest most effective box to use get a useful guitar track when going into the board without a mic'd amp?

Dynamic mics 4 ac. guitar
At times, I'd like a less focused sound out of my acoustic guitar than the SRO's and NT1000 gives me.
Any suggestions for good quality dynamics that work well on steel string acoustics?
seems like some cad and sennh. mics are well liked.

I'm having a session coming up shortly where the plan is to record vocals and acoustic guitar, some tambourine and background vocals "live" it's a sort of 60's retro songs so any retro tips would be welcome!

Recording guitar and bass
I have been reading up quite a lot about recording and mixing. Why do you have to mic the guitar or bass amp? Why cant you just feed it directly into the mixer?
Thanks :)

Hey,
Is there anything in the $600- range worth looking at as far as small diaphragm condensers go apart from the Oktava MC-012 from The Sound Room and SP C4s? I was thinking used 451s, but I've heard they're quite too bright at times. I was also thinking about SM81s.
Instruments that will be recorded:

Recording acoustic guitar w/ Mics pointed down from ceiling
I have treated my room a la fiberglass cloud on ceiling, and left the floor live. I like a bit of liveliness since I mostly record acoustic guitar in ORTF with some omni's. I took Ethan's advice from his faq on this and decided I'd try it with the cheaper rigid fiberglass bass traps on the ceiling with coverage at about 80%.
