Hi everybody. I'm total newbie here. I was thinking about buying speakers and amp for listening CD's and mp3's like some regular home audio system. What do you think about using active monitors instead of some tower speakers for that? If it's not crazy idea could you please recommend me some gear for that. I wanna hook up CD player and computer where I have mp3's.

Hi! I'm a sound engineer and producer located in Norway, and newly registered. :D

At the moment in my home project studio i'm using HiFi audio equipment for monitoring which I know is not the best choice but at least it's better than just headphones. I'm currently using a pair of Boston Acoustics CR85s and a Yamaha RX 595 Stereo Reciever. The reason I'm posting this is perhaps someone can help me with a little problem I'm having.

2 questions:

I was wondering if it is worth building my own? And if so does anybody out there know of some good plans, complete with driver and crossover information?

I see many NS 10's and spare parts for the same on sale at ebay.
Is it insane to buy there?
Obviously you can't LISTEN to them. I'm a severe newbie but listening to speakers before purchase MIGHT? be a good idea!

Any thoughts, experiences welcome!

I am using Mackie 824s for reference monitors.

Why is it that when I make small adjustments in EQ,
compression, reverb, etc, that I cannot hear on the Mackies,
I can hear those same adjustments on my home stereo system which, by the way, is in the same room?

Hi all. Am looking at upgrading my monitors and am deciding between ADAM P11A and the KRK-V8II. I know that in the end it comes down to your ears and personal taste, but does anyone have experience with either/both of these systems?

I am thinking of buying some Yamaha NS10s but after a quick look can not find any for sale, in England, on the net. Does anyone know where I could find any for sale in England and how much they now cost on average

I have just recorded two CD's for clients. One is vocal with piano and the other is solo piano. Both were recorded with Steinway B's.
