Self-Noise
In electronics all components produce some level of noise. In an electronic device or system, the total noise of all components is measured as the self-noise of the device or system. This measurement is taken into account when dealing with signal to noise ratios.

Signal-to-noise ratio

crazy electrical noise
i've just started recording some songs recently. teaching myself to use abelton. so i've got this old sansamp bass DI that i've been trying to record my guitar with. it sounds pretty good until about half way through recording a track, i get this loud electical static noise. i made sure everything was grounded, tried a different guitar, cords and still the loud crackle will happen every time.

Display monitor noise
Do LCD displays create the same amount or type of noise (EMI) as a CRT. I currently use an ancient CRT. Singe coil pickups are very susceptible to it - have to stand 10 feet away at certain angle...
And if I get a new LCD display will I have to change my user name also?

(Sometimes) Bad Signal-Noise Ratio when Recording Bass
So, its the weirdest thing, sometimes when I record bass I get a really clean signal, good sound, all sunny and clear...
...and then other times its like some evil beast inside my setup is hissing at me for not feeding it or something. Ok, its not THAT bad, but its still noticeably worse at some times than at others.
How to reduce background noise?
I just bought a Samson CO3U USB mic, and although the sound quality is great, there is ALOT of background noise. I'm in a completely quiet room, but there always seem to be this slight buzz sound going on. If I go to mic options and click on "listen to device", I will have nothing going on in the room, and I still hear this very prominent background noise.

Best setup to get my Shure SM58 to PC *WITHOUT* hissing/noise?
Basically, I have a Shure SM58 attached to a home-made XLR-->1/4 Adapter-->1/8 Jack going into a SB Audigy (yes, the card sucks, I know)... The recordings sound clear and crisp (when I boost the recording a whole 60%) but then you get audible noise/static when the backing track is muted...
My Adam A5 has a crackling noise!
Hey everyone!
This is my first time on a music forum.
I received my new Adam A5 studio monitors two days ago. And immediately I started playing different kinds of music for hours to test them out.

Samson G-track USB Mic noise...
I just bought a Samson G-track USB Microphone and was testing it with the included Sonar LE software. In my opinion there was a lot of noise when I listened to some of my voise tests. I tried different settings on the mic volume control. Up untill half power there's noice. At a volume of 3/4 the recorded sound easily gets too loud when singing too close to the mic and that ruins the sound.
