How do you like 414s as a stereo pair?

I'm about to record some pieces for a calssical/acoustic duo (piano, double bass) and I was thinking about trying a pair of 414 TL II as a stereo pair; I know the mics but I have never used them in this position; I usually set up my main stereo pair in a ORTF pattern.
Any advices, or good/bad experiences?

Thanx :)

Stereo Compressor "mastering"

Looking for a new compressor for "home" mastering-So nothing above $2k --so maybe in the price range of $600-1000...an early EMT,Altec,Urei,Orban, dbx all seem to be in that price...on the new front Buzz, Alesis CLX 440, SPL,Dramer_____ maybe wait for a used Avalon 747, Manley, Cranesong,,,probably never in that price range andworking . so whats a poor boy to do?

Widening the Stereo Image...

Forums

I recently did a rough mix of a song called "Propaganda".

It can be found at The Speed of Sound

I'm having difficulty getting the stereo field as large as I would like it. Is this an issue of mixing, or should I let the mastering house deal with it?

The singer will be coming in to lay down vocals tonight. I sang on this version, just as a reference for myself.

Anyone dispensing w/ stereo for tracking?

I'm thinking my life would be much easier (and cheaper) if I didn't bother with recording stereo pairs of anything, even overheads. I'm working with 1/2" 8 track, so preserving tracks before I have to bounce is of interest to me, but I could see for rock and pop stereo Micing could be unnecessary.
