Volume in GarageBand is a lie?

Hey, guys.

I've been lurking for a few weeks, stealing your best informations as I find it.

However, I've run into an issue that's got me totally stumped. I'm trying to mix a song for my band (we're trying REALLY damned hard to do our recording in-house so we don't have to pay someone else to screw up what we can screw up ourselves).

Volumes on Vocals

Forums

I was wondering if their is another way of getting all the volumes on the vocal on the same level...usually when i record my volumes go up high sometimes and lower at other times...i normalize or higher limit the vocals but it still doesn't balance out and level everything the same...i use compressor at times but it ends up compressing my vocals real bad where it doesn't sound natural anymore..

Recording volume problem. Is it mic/cable/preamp?

Forums

I am using an SM57 to record my guitar cabinet. At random times during a recording the volume level will drop signifigantly (like -10 dB) and randomly return to its normal level. It generally does not stay between the two extremes. Also the line can get a little noisy when this happens (not a lot like a loud hum, but noticable enough where it is annoying).

Mixing, volume, headroom, a little help please.

Hi, I've been reading quite a few of the threads on this forum regarding mixing, mastering etc.
Most of the threads start out with a nice question and end up in some discussion about how professional recordings are not made by accident etc, etc.
This makes them hard to read, and even herder to learn anything.

too many volume levels

i am using an ART tube MP preamp, auto technica 2020 microphone and adobe audition 1.5 to record vocals...
the feedback on the vocals is still very unbalance the preamp has an input and output and I'm not sure at what level they should be, should the output be louder than the input?
the adobe has a lot of filters to reduce feedback and hissing

Hiss - either too much hiss or too little volume, help!

Hey all,
I would really appreciate some help as I'm pulling my hair out here.

I have the following very simple setup:

Shure SM58 Mic -> PreSonus FP10 (FireWire) -> Cubase SX3

If I set all my FP10 gain nobs to unity (straight up/centred) the volume on the PC barly registers. I figure this is fine as the SM58 needs a fair bit of gain.

Help please! Vocal volumes.

Forums

Ive been recoring for about a year now, I feel I'm pretty good at it but there is one big issue i can not figure out. When i record vocals i find it hard to adjust volumes to keep them equal though out the whole song, is there a way to limit the vocals to keep the volume from varying? I can adjust them manually after ward, but its never perfect.

Volume consistency in a bar

Hi Folks…

I’m wondering if you all can help me figure this out for a friend of mine.

My friend owns a bar and uses a jukebox for the music. The jukebox is loaded with all different types of music and the problem is that he cannot get a consistent volume. If someone plays an older song the volume is too low and the newer songs are way too high and blow everyone out.
