I have a project which contains a vocal track that has its volume elevated to the point of clipping - on purpose. It sounds really nice. When I play it in my program (Sonar 7) it sounds nice, at least. This is because the only track that is clipping is the vocal track, and everything else comes through clear when it does. When I export and mix down to a single stereo track, bad things happen. The whole track clips whenever the vocals clip. Um, I'm not exactly a professional, more along the lines of a beginner. Does anyone know how I can solve this, and still have my nicely clipping vocals inside of everything else?

I tried your tip, and while it did keep everything from clipping, the vocal track ended up loosing some of its cool sounds and bizzare fizzles. So, what I ended up doing was to just patch my soundcard output back to the input, and record it as I played it from Sonar. Seemes like a bad technique, but it worked! Thanks.

Was the vocal recorded to clip, or are you pushing it over while mixing? If the latter, export the clipped vocal by itself to a new mono .wav file, import that and set the fader levels lower on all tracks. You should be shooting for peak mix levels of -4 to -6. Good luck.
