I've had good luck with MOTU on XP. Still using a 324 card with a 24i and 2408 MkII.

Thanks, I've been putting off looking at my Mobo specs to see if I can support the 324 card... It'd be cheaper!

What software are you using if you don't mind me asking, also curious about what kind of latency your getting.

I've been using a 2408mkII & 1224/324 card since around 1998, first on win98, w2k Pro and XP (SP1)

Current software is Cubase 4, SX3 & Wavelab 6

Only issue I had was when I switched to XP, couldn't get the units to work, contacted Motu, they said "won't work on XP with a 324 card, you need to upgrade to the 424"

Didn't believe them as I've dealt with their tech support over the yrs and frankly, I think I know more than they do :-)

Anyway, after troubleshooting for a few days I came across a simple solution ( for me anyway )

When I start my system up, I leave the Motu gear OFF, until it's finished booting, then I turn them on.

Goes against what Motu says but works for me.

In case you're wondering why I'm still on SP1 with XP, the DAW is never on the internet, ever, so no need for updates unless I find a reason to install something, like Cubase 4 required Win Installer 3.1, so I just d/l it on another machine, put it on a flash drive and installed it on the DAW.

Same for licensing Cubase4/Syncrosh*t.

Others are using SP3 with no problems though, but if my system ain't broke......

As for latency, I never worry about it because I record strictly audio, and use an outboard mixer for monitoring & external FX with patchbays.

I suppose that could be an issue if your using Midi and VSTi's, but I don't.

Again. others are using Midi, VSTi's etc with no problems so I guess the latency must be okay.

I've always said I would upgrade to RME when the Motu gear packs it in but it's like the Ever Ready Bunny.

I use an analog mixer for preamps and monitoring so there's no latency. I've turned on the MOTU monitor utility and, when mixed with the analog path, there's enough latency for a phase interaction but not a noticeable delay effect. Then again, I've heard as little as a millisecond affect the groove of a song.
