I've finally narrowed my selections. I'm looking at either the UA 6176 or the Millennia Origin STT1 to add to my Focusrite ISA428. I do Gospel, Hip-Hop, Rap and R&B. Also the Soundelux Ifet7 was recommended to me in addition to my current SP C1, but for the money I was thinking about (2) mics the Sounddelux U195 and the AT4060 to have more options available. I mainly track vocals (variety of male and female) and synths(drum mach., etc.)
Also thinking about a compressor maybe (2) RNC's or even a Distressor if possible or the Summit TLA50. I usually record @ 24/48K so the dynamics is not necessarily the issue mainly trying to get the sound sculpting tools before I hit the converters.
My current setup:

Focusrite ISA428
SP C1
Waves Plugs
WaveLab
T-Racks
Har-Bal

If anyone has had any experience with these gear options I would appreciate your input.

I'd say go with the UA and the 2 mic's. Options are great, you don't want to be stuck with one mic and have it not work for you. The UA also will add some color when the Millennia is a pretty clean pre. The sound of the UA will "fatten" up your tracks a tad and add some life to the recordings. I also love distressors. They're highly shapable and work well for lot's of different styles of music.

I have an Origin here and while I love it very much I don't think it would be at "home" in Rap and Hip Hop production ... it just sounds too good.

Look into the UA 210 mic pre / 1176 combo box.. with classic compression and mic pre at your finger tips you should be able to get to where you want to be with it.

I am moving in the direction of the UA-6176 with a AT4060 and Soundelux U195. I figure theses additions to my ISA 428, which is very clean with a little bite to it I guess coming from the Lundahl transformer will give me a decent variety till the next upgrade.
Thanks for your response, I was told by another source that the Origin might not give the coloring capabilities of the UA.

I had a 6176 for about 6 months and dumped it, it had no headroom. Too much distortion, especially bad for stacking vocals. It just got too gooey sounding for Rap/R&B. Got a Chandler LTD-1 and never looked back. IMO the LTD-1 is a much better pre.

I run U195>Chandler LTD-1(1073)>Distressor>Apogee>PT... The vocal sound is killer!

Thanks for the suggestions. As for the UA James your saying it's to colored. Dosen't it have a drive knob to adjust the tube level? I've heard the chandeler name never really looked into them. Are they tube. And with the AT4060, I was lookung to run it through the ISA 428, they seem like they would be good companions. The ISA is somewhat on the punchy side, I really like it on my synth and drum sounds.
James, what genre of music do record/produce? In your signal chain I saw the Distressor, I'm looking at that also, but finances may cause me to fall back to the Summit TLA-50. Also the Apogee, I'm looking at adding the MOTU HD-192 to my 2408Mk3.

I have a Universal Audio 2108 dual channel pre and absolutely love it. I chose it over the UA tube pre because it is very sonically similar to the circuitry in the 1176, which I love. It rocks.

However, the ISA is a fantastic pre- very clean and crisp.

p.s. you can overdrive the 2108 to fatten up the sound- a VERY versatile pre.
