Since christmas is coming up i thought id ask for some kind of midi keyboard as a present. the budget i got is around 150$ or less, it doesn't have to be the best just good enough for me to get a feel. i want more of a synth action controller but don't know where to start.

here's what i'm looking at for controllers in my price:

Either of those should do just fine. I'd get the oxygen over the U-Controls simply because it has more controllers on it. Knobs and sliders. If you do lots of VSTi stuff that will make your life much easier.

You could go with a normal keyboard with MIDI. They come with sounds so you wouldn't have to have it plugged into something when you just want to play around. They are ok but I'd rather have the dedicated MIDI controller with the knobs and sliders...and transport controls.

Get the m-audio and have fun. BTW...it's a little cheaper at amazon and if you hit your local pawn shops or craigslist, you are likely to find a MIDI controller for less that $50.
