I am incredibly new to MIDI. In fact, I really don't have a clue what I'm doing yet. I have a Korg SP200 that has midi in and out. Is that all I need to control VST instruments? There is no switch on it that will mute the keyboards internal sounds. While reading through the Cubase manual, it looked like it said that if my keyboard had it's own sounds, I would need to engage a switch of some sort that would bypass the internal keyboard sounds in order to control any other midi devices.
Perhaps I'm overthinking this. I just don't really understand MIDI at all yet. Thanks in advance for any help.

As for your keyboard, it will work just fine. You don't have to worry about the audio from the keyboard. If all you want to to is use it to control VSTi's, then you only need to hook the MIDI out of the keyboard into the MIDI in of your computer.
The switch that they were talking about was probably a switch to turn local control on or off. When local control is on, the key you press on the keyboard triggers a sound from the keyboard. You are playing sounds "locally". With it off, you will not hear any of the keyboard's sounds. If you don't plug the audio outputs of the keyboard into anything, you don't need to worry about that.
