I was wondering if anybody had some suggestions for a decent CD recorder that can be used to record practice sessions. it would probably need to be dual deck or atleast have the ability to duplicate discs fairly quickly for multiple people. and of course, money is an object.
Also, I have also seen recorders that would automatically create separate tracks by using a gate of some sort. so if a band stopped playing for a few seconds, it would stop recording and end the track. when they kicked back up it would start recording and create a new track. does anybody know of any models that do this?
sound quality isn't a primary concern as much as reliabilty and the ability to archive and review material quickly and easily. a recorder that isn't finicky as to the CDr's it can use would be nice too.

Microboards makes the Copywriter Live, which is a CD recorder with two burn drives. You can record on one disc and skip over to the 2nd one when the first is full, or you can dupe from drive1 to drive2 but I don't think it is fast. I forget if you can record to both at the same time.....
If you have a computer, just throw another CD drive in it and use it for dupes would be easiest.

I'd second the notion on the HHB, they make a very nice standalone unit with XLR inputs, quite decent A/D conversion. Then a quick finalize in the unit, move the CDR to a Microboards multi ( I use 1 master to 8 slave) unit and you're done.
It would cost around 2k and be something you can use in a variety of settings. I'm a high school choral director. I can record pieces we're working on in the first 20-25 minutes of rehearsal. Burn a disc and hand one to 50 students as they leave the classroom. Talk about a powerful teaching tool!
Be careful however with the HHB, because its an English unit 2 and 3 are reversed from American wiring, so you can run into issues with phase if you're not sure where you're going with standard balanced cables in and out. I made purple cables just for that unit's ins and outs to be safe.
