making midi drums sound as good as possible
So I have Cubase SL, and I mostly do demos of music i've written, and mostly for yuks. All I have for drums/percussion is the ones that came with SL. They call it the COMPRESSOR, and as much as that is an impressive name, and saying it makes my willy feel bigger, I am left wonton(by the sound of the drums, not necessarily by the size of...)

Compressing drums, in general
This is a philisophical question: Drums/percussion seems to have the highest dynamic range of any instrument. They punctuate the music. Because of this, however, compressors grab drums first, it seems, in a stereo mix. Thus, drums get hammered down by compression, losing that flavor of punctuation more, typically, than most instruments. This seems wrong somehow.

Let's share some reverb and compressor presets for drums!
Hi guys,
What do you think to share some presets of your personal library of settings?
I think that's a good way to learn and improve you mix skills!
I'll start to put something that a friend of mine developed and works fine at my studio.
COMPRESSOR:
This is for use with the drums overheads mics and with the PSP VINTAGE WARMER
Newbie recording drums!
I want to get the best sounding drum tracks I can make at home.
I'm thinking of going with Sure or Audix.
Does anyone have a suggestion of personal preference?
Thanks!

Two questions... Sound card and MIDI drums?
I'm buying the Firebox package at Musicians friend. I currently have a soundblaster LIVE sound card. Should I upgrade me sound card also? If so, to what? Or will I be fine with that? My monitors go into my audio interface, so I assume what I will be hearing is what it will sound like. Does the sound card directly affect your recoridng or how it comes out?
