Before and After
OK, here is a request that would probably help many people. Could someone post mp3 of a song before mastering and after it? This would show to many people what a proper mastering can do with a mix.
thx,
chris

CDR Labeling - Sticker w/ Sharpie?
I know the sharpie debate comes up alot, however, what about the CD-Stickers? I have been using those and I wonder what the "PRO" stance on the CD Sticers are.
For you anti-sharpie folks, is the sharpie ok if it is on the sticker?
Is ink jet ok on the sticker?

Top Mastering Facilities
I'm trying to dig up some research on what would be considered some of the top (say top 25 in the US), mastering facilities today. I know this is a subjective category, but if some of the more knowledgable folks could drop some names of the facilities they feel are the best, I'd definitely appreciate it!
Many thanks.

Do it here or there? help quick!
ok guys I have a question for you? would you pay 125 dollars a hour to track in a studio thats acoustically perfect from drums and vocals? or should I upgrade studio with drum mics and converters and a good vocal mic and completely deaden my room (since its to small to be usuable) and add reverb electronically.. I would be able to work at my whim and be able to not rush...

Amp to feed Dahlquist DQ-10
Hi all,
Does anybody know whether there are any recommended amplifiers for the Dahlquist DQ-10's?
I've been recommended to try those speakers, but I don't know if the amp I have will do the job... (it's a Quad 520f).
I don 't know if this is the right forum, so please advice me in the right direction if this is not the case :o

How to make recordings sound old?
I'm interested in ways of making things sound old, and wondered if there was any particular piece/pieces of gear that have a knack for this. By old, I mean anything that has a characteristic that can be related to music recorded and mastered between the 30's up through the 70s. Not that the 70's sound old but... you know.

Normalizing
Hi,
I could use a little enlightenment...
Since I first set up camp all I heard was compression and limiting. I've struggled with that forever. Finally I ran into an audio engineer who explained the peaks and valleys of audio wave forms, etc. He suggested bagging compression and limiting and just using normalizing. I did and it worked like a charm.
