analyzing sound

Hi all,
newbie here wondering how to best utilize a spectrum analyzer while recording drums. What should I look for? I can't find any helpful reference on google on the topic.
While tracking drums should I check each tom/mic by hitting and recording one hit or meassure the whole kit?
Are there any topics on range of bass drum vs snare in relation to hi hat and ride?

Quality of converters on Mackie d8b mixer

Could anyone tell me what is the sound quality of the converters on Mackie d8b console? I could get one cheap but it's not about the money.. I don't wanna get something with converters sounding much worse than a decent ouboard converter. I would buy RME 5692 card with 3 ADAT interfaces and use d8b as a mixer/converter going to either nuendo 2 or Cubase sx3.

Nuendo2 / Cubase SX3 project run from 2 hard drives

This way the drives run smooth and I never had a single problem with even 100 tracks of audio running simultaneously. I have a 120gb SATA internal drive and a LaCie 120gb FireWire drive.

UA 6176 I think I F'ed up!

Hi, I'm a little worried. I bought my UA 6176 a couple of months ago and I love it. But the little light in the middle has never worked. So I finally picked up a light bulb that looked similar and stuck it in there. When I turned it on the bulb popped and the unit shut down. No big deal, I pulled out the fuse and sure enough it was fried.

Please help on deciding if I'm missing anything essential...

Hi, you may have seen me post in the Pro Audio Forum, but I'm back here.

Anyway, I'm trying to have a set-up to practice recording/mixing for as cheaply as possible and need some help on microphone suggestions. The tone I would like to eventually attain would be that punchy nu-metal, stoner rock, or blues like sound.

Here's what I have:
