Another damn pre question..but this hasn't been covered much

So i have a classical CD coming up soon ( i mostly do rock, jazz, country, Emo etc.) I'm trying to do some upgrading before this hits. What I'm curious about is this. I'm considering the API 3124+ and the UA-2-610. Both would be killer for me normaly but how would they fair on say grand piano, cello, violin, string bass etc.

When I mix songs they sound like crap on most speakers.

Yes I know I need nearfield monitors. So I am thinking Msp5a's from Yamaha. I have spent soo much money over the last few months on preamps, comps, mics and a new recorder. It is SOOO depressing when I put my mix on any speaker besides the stupid BOSE wave freakin radio It sounds like it was recorded through a 1 inch layer of mud! AGHHH. (y)

mobile rig without a laptop

I want to rack mount my pc.

Not sure if its a great idea, as far as bumps and things that occur on the road.

What I want to do is strip out a van that I can use as a mobile control room so I can record bands either where they practice or at a show. I would rather spend $1800 on mics and snakes and cables than a laptop, although I'm sure I'll move to one in the future.

Not satisfied with Shure

Hi,

I have sound card Egosys Waveterminal 2496, Behringer pre-amplifier Behringer Eurorack and old mic Shure 565 Unisphere.
I'm not satisfied with sound which I get with this mic, I need it basicaly for rapping (hip hop voice recording). The sound which I get it's somehow deep with to much bass, undefined, I need more middle EQ in this mic.
