Can Anyone give me an idea of the quality of these pre's. I'm using the pre's in an Alesis Studio 32 for Kick drum and Tom Toms (MD421s for toms and MD421 or Beta 52 for kick). I would like to get some great mic preamp's for this, but won't have the money for a little while.

I'm mostly recording hip hop vocals. I have a M-Audio omni i/o. I want to buy a new mic and a new mic preamp. I am looking at
1. RNP/RNC 2.Summit 2BA-221 3.Grace 101 .. One of these three with one of these mics:
a. AT 4040 or 4050
b. SP C3
c. SP B3 or b1
d. RODE NTK

just wondering what yall think about these two boards...
eliminated the Mackie and Behringer route and the Midas 160 is TOO expensive. i do mostly hip hop productions with an MPC and synths into PT via digi 001.
any opinions about the preamps for vocal and occasional acoustic guitar recordings?

anyone have any specific routines thry use to do a final mix. anything froma fresh pot of coffee to specific settings, or how to listen to reference CDs?

Anyone try the Empirical labs FATSO jr across the 2-bus? Any comments vs the distressor.

I can get my hands on some brandnew Bellari RP 520's, they don't sound wrong to my ears and would make a nice extra in my toolpallet...

Just wanted to find out what a reasonable price for such a pre would be.. Any thoughts?

Let us share experiences considering our favorite daily use channel inserts on this thread..

I have been a big fan of Mc DSP lately, considering TDM and PSP, for RTAS.

So, some of my inserts have been:

a) COMPRESSORS BANKS2 > FILTERBANK E6 > WAVES PAZ
(after evaluating the track, I remove PAZ)

I'm putting together my first system with simplicity in mind. The M-Audio PCI based Omni/Delta 66 really appealed to me because of the minimal additional equipment required to make basic recordings. That said, the M-Audio Firewire 410 also looks interesting. Aside from the flexibility of using the Firewire 410 with different computers, these products appear similar in many respects.

'Now one thing I am considering doing is buying a good 1/2" two-track for mixdowns to take to the mastering house. Anyone have any opinions on this? The idea is that I would do all my tracking at 24/96 and mix down to the two-track analog deck.'
