I'm recording with a 550 G4 Powerbook, external FW-HD and two (sometimes even three) MOTU 828 on a FW Hub. I'm recording 16 to 24 Tracks of a Live-Concert.
I'm doing this for almost 2 Years and figured out some Problems which are mainly caused in a slow HD (must be 7200rpm) or FireWire wiring.
But lately I had some Problems I'm asking for help.

I'm not sure I've got the right section, so my apologies if I've posted in the wrong place.

Anyway, I've got a question about my DAW not working properly. Lately, upon either playback or recording, about 30 seconds to a minute into it, the sound will start to "break down" and sounds all distorted, until, alas, there's nothing but silence.

I was made aware of "jitter" a while back, and was curious if anyone could tell me how my setup faired in regards to jitter, and also if there's an advantage to using something like Apogee's Big Ben.

For basic recording (with MIDI), what is the best soundcard available? (price being one of the more important criteria)

Most people i've talked to have been recommending the Audiophile 2496 by mAudio...is that the way to go?

Hello, i have been running cakewalk,gigastudio, vegas video and sound forge on a pentium 3 500mz, 256ram,windows 98se with a audiophile 2496 sound card for the last year. However I also have a host of othe crap installed on it (printer, games and other non audio related crap).

I now have a second computer for the net and all the non audio related apps.

I was looking on the Gigabyte website for motherboards and there was two categories for motherboards with intel 865 chipsets. What is the difference between Intel865G/ICH5 and Intel865PE/ICH5 chipsets.

I'm glad that amny of you are having good results with the "recorderman" drum oh Micing "technique (as if anyone really comes up with anything unique...). Next time do it another way. The only reason I quantified and posted that was in a way to help some of you, relative to getting good OH's. It was a way to stear you into listening and achieving somewaht proper phase and balance in the kit.

I just bought a Revox C278 1/2" 8-track. It was on eBay, and there was no picture of it, but the price seemed to be right...so I gambled and bought it.

Now I've received it, and it seems to be in near mint condition. There is no visible head wear. It operates at 7.5 and 15 ips.
