Hi,

I guess this is a real newbie question on the biz aspects of getting music out into the market. I hope that someone out there is knowledgable and kind enough to give me a few pointers.

I am about to buy a sound card and want to do some home based recording. I cannot afford anything other than the high-endrange from creative, as any other soundcard in my country (new Zealand) takes a huge leap in price, including the terratec DMX6. I have decided on the audigy2 but do not know whether to get the platinum standard or the platinum Ex. It seems the specs are the same.

When i'm recording drums i have a question

1. My overhead mics (2 SM-81) sounds great on cymbals but theres way to mutch snare leaking in.
When i'm mixin i cant turn them up as mutch as i would like to cause it raises the snare too.
Is the answer to compress them hard or gate ?
(Have the same problem on hi-hat also)

OK. I got one of these from a friend to try and modernize some rock stuff. How are they to be used. Kick, floor toms.. what about bass? Should you compress the return? What freq should I start around, the one I got doesnt say it goes as low as the dbx unit I have seen, but when listening to it, it goes REAL low!

What do you think?

Hey all, who wins in a nock down drag out? I know its not a fair comparison since 1 has more Ins and outs and is more expensive but all I need is 8 TRS ins 2 TRS outs and I'm happy. So I guess the question is how the 1010s converters stack up. Also another question for you.. Is it possible to mix in Pro Tools even when tracking with another software using either of these converters. thanks

i run nuendo with a MOTU 2408 and 1224, today i just recieved another 2408 and after hooking it up i've been getting some crackle action on playback. i tried fiddling with buffer speeds but it was no help. do i need an external word clock to rectify this situation or is that not it at all?
any help would be great
