I just got my new Audiophile 2496 and had all kinds of trouble installing it. I had already downloaded the latest Win2000 driver from their website. No matter how i tried to get it installed, it would not function properly. All I would get were brief looped sounds, and my CPU usage would skyrocket to 50-75%, as though it were caught in a loop.

Are these still being made? think not..

But, if they are, how much are they?
How much do they go for s/h?

Is there another hardware unit that sounds similar?

Any thoughts on the Bombfactory Pultec EQ- how it compares to the real thing?- I ask this even though BF have kindly illuminated me to the fact that 'pro' musicians don't use forums.

I have recorded a lot of M & S Stereo over the last decade (or 2!);(Music and Drama dialogue and action etc).

Recently I got Nuendo and I am having some fun in mixing down my own field recordings.

I've read a few posts with users saying they have monitors out on loan for trial.
How does this work?Do you have to have a pro studio to qualify.
Obviously being able to spend a bit of time with monitors before buying is going to be the best way to make a decision.

I am in no means a pro, but with a little help, maybe I can get close.
A couple of questions about tracking.

Is it the standard practice, to record keyboards direct? Are keyboardist as anal about tone as guitar players? Are keyboard parts recorded with effects from the keyboard, or are they added later in the mix?

I'm going to be starting to burn CD's in a while, what's the preference for brand and stat's that are best to purchase?
