getting good quality sound in spite of complicating factors

I am wanting to get into podcasting with a limited budget. I want to come up with the best set up for getting good quality sound. I will be setting up my studio in a room in my house which is about 300 square feet and is fully furnished as a living room. Due to many factors, the studio must be in this room.

pro tool- how can you make the overall track louder without-

clipping and making it sound terrible and muddy. if you want to hear what I'm talking about go to http://www.myspace.com/athiefinthenightfl
i really need to figure out this problem cause I'm going to be recording and EP for my band and i dont want it be be very quite.

Powercore or UAD ?

I've got a little bit of experience with Universal Audio plugins on a friend's system that has a UAD-2 solo but I've never had hands on with any of the Powercore hardware or plugins. I'm thinking about getting either a UAD-2 Duo Flexi or the Powercore Express. The Powercore comes with 14 plugins and a $500 voucher and I can get that new for $850.
