Accidental discovery: snare recording
Forums
I'm most likely not the first person to have done this, but I've never heard of a snare being recorded like this. Today I was hastily setting up my drums to record while my parents were at a party. I had to finish before they got back cause they hate the noise. I only had half of my drums at this house: snare, floor tom, and ride. Thats it.

Louder monitors
Forums
Hello!
I am current running my mixes on a pair of event TR6's.
Moving to a new area next week, and am blessed with a much larger control room. Will need larger monitors to satisfy my far seated clients.
Was looking at the Samson Rubicon8's with a sub.
Choice is majorly limited here.
Advise please.
Cheers!
Sidhu

FX Chains for Recording
Forums
I am planning on using an EQ pedal in conjunction with my distortion pedal for recording my guitar. I know from experimentation that the order has a big effect on what the end product sounds like. What do you recommend as to which one to put first and why?
Enjoy your Holiday!

audio interface, software explained
Forums
So I recently purchased a PreSonus Firebox with the Cubase LE 4 that comes with it.
But when I go into the device setup in Cubase, it asks for an output...
I thought the output was the firewire connection from the computer to the audio interface...
Whenever I try to record, no sound comes through...
Is there something I'm missing here?

Cooling
Forums
One of the other topics has sort of digressed into a very pertinent topic with regards to any computer.
Keeping things cool yet quiet.
In light of that I thought I'd post some of the things I do to ensure quality operation of my machines.

Best Budget Computer Audio Interface
Forums
I'm not a recording pro but I'm heading off to music school in a couple months and I need a computer audio interface. I have a new macbook and I'm running Logic Express on it. My computer has no firewire ports so I need an interface that uses usb. I have a couple in mind but I want to here what more experienced individuals have to say. Thanks a lot.

I will prefix this post by letting you know that I have a terrible voice.
Basically I am after any techniques or effects to hide, as best as possible, the obvious pitfalls in my singing ability.

A few noobie questions
Forums
Hi everyone,
Basically I joined this forum today because I am having problems with recording some music that I have written. I have a few questions, if anyone could answer them that'd be great.
My music has electric guitar, drums and vocals etc so the recording has to be as good as I can get it from my own home.

Pickup Patterns
Forums
I'd like to offer up some blabber and MSPaint explanations about common pickup patterns. Here's effort 1.
-----
The pickup pattern of a mic is simply the area in which it picks up the most sound. Noises outside this area will still be picked up but with less definition and volume.
