Mixing Drums - Digital vs Digital through Analog

Has any found that drums mixed all digital either directly in a DAW or through a digital console don't quite have the impact of going out the D/A's to an analog console. When mixing drums all digital I find then to have to much realness and not enough impact for rock and roll. Do you find the same thing?

analog noise reduction, Telcom C-4

Hi,
I have an oppurtunity to buy a system of Telcom C4 noise reduction units. (It's not the kind of deal that I can try them out, and then decide if I want to buy.) Does anybody have any experience with these? Almost everything on the web that I can find is in German. I am curious to know how the sound compares to the various dolby Noise reduction units.
thank you.

1. Light Pipe - Mic Pre's 2. Digital/Analog Monitoring

Forums

I have a Pro Tools MixPlus+++++ system and currently use my Yamaha 02R for the mic preamp's and monitoring via Digi's ADAT bridge. I would like to loose the 02R because it takes up too much space and is not a great choice for mic preamps . I do not feel it worthwhile to spent a bundle on separate and expensive mic preamps and Line level to Light pipe A/Ds. . .

Analog Mix Down Console

Need a little direction---Looking for a analog "mix-down" board----24 to 32 channel, 8 sends per, a quality 4 band eq with sweeps,,mic preamps do not matter--would like 90% of I/O on top of board--and would like under 3 feet wide>>>>>>so impossible? Not Mackie nor Behringer-(although the MX 3282 has the exact features--but looking for the next sonic quality up) Any hints?

analog recorders ?

hi,
for all out there. I would like to purchase multitrack analog tape recorder (16 ch). My budget is 2500$.

I found Tascam atr60/16 with remote and dbx noise reduction for 2000$, but I heard that this machine is bad.

Anyone that was useing this machine give me some information about it or tell me what should I buy in this budget range...

Digital or Analog compressor

I have some nice tracking compressors (1176, Summit) but am using an FMR for stereo 2-bus. Not that it is bad but I would like to step up a notch. I'm mix to a Masterlink and do my own mastering (this is not professional just for my own enjoyment). So would I be better off getting a good analog compressor like the solid state Avalon or Smart or something like a Waves Maximizer L2?

Leaving analog gear powered up 7x24

What's the current best thinking on this from the perspective of equipment longevity? The topic has been much argued for computer equipment, and I'm not sure there's a consensus.

I'm almost certain it depends on the type and build of equipment (e.g. tube vs solid state), environment (avg. temperature & control, power quality), power costs, etc.

So, what do you guys do?

x
