I am trying to get a Digital Recording setup that will be serviceable. Nothing fancy, just decent enough to make an accurate demo tape. Also, the setup has to be laptop-based. I'm trying to buy a few digital voice recorders (DVR) to do some recording. I had previously gotten 2 olympus WS 100, but it didn't turn out to do the specific job that I wanted, especially quality wise. So I am in the market again.

who here has experience and/or input on these boards? i am currently renting out a studio that uses this, and in the future when i get my own studio together i am thinking about getting the same one. as of thus far, i like the board, and the owner has loved it for many years...but after a few searches on here, i found some people dont feel the same way.

basically i have my dishnetwork dvr digital output lightpipe which is smpte and i want to go into my motu828mk2 ADAT in.But i get nothing but high pitch static on all channels in cuemix.Then i found out that the dvr was smpte code and the MOTU is ADAT and not compatible.

I've been getting into different types of video game and movie music. I'm not MUCH of a composer but I love to write rock music. I've been incorporating orchestra sounds with rock music (yeah, like that hasn't been done before) for industrial rock-ish movie music. Make sense?

Digital vs analog recording.

Anyone having experience of A/B testing identical material
played back from a 24 track analog side by side an 24 track
digital machine?

I cannot afford to get Pro Tools HD, I need at least 24 analog out in order to mix outside the box on analog mixer and using outboard gear

so my question is, is MOTU HD as good or nearly as good as PTHD? or at least is it way better thatn using a Digi002?
