Best Stand-alone digital recorder?
Hello,
Thanks to all for your input on building the studio.
I'm going to go the computer route. However, I've got a bunch of stuff that I'd like to record asap in highest quality form that I can burn to CD, while I complete the longer term goal of building and learning the computer system.

digital recording levels
In more than one post Bill Roberts has stated that a mix should go to the mastering engineer at -6 db. Does that mean that I should record each track at -6 db also? Or should I try to get the maximum signal I can on each track and then mix to -6 db?

Hi! could you help me with my digital mixdown?
I am using a digital recorder that has an onboard
CD burner. to mix to CD I must first bounce record it(all my completed tracks) to two tracks.
need a digital mixer that will interface with PC
I am currently in the market for a digital mixing board that has a computer interface
the one that has my interest is the
Roland VM-7200. the reason I like this board
is it links to the computer through an R-bus

Focusrite Digitalcard
Is anybody using the digital card for any of the compatible Focusrite ISA/Platinum boxes? The new 4 ch ISA box, I forget the model, looks real good and if the converters sound good, that could make life much nicer.

Analog Secrets, Digital Realm: Mixing
Ye who are wise in the ways of science:
I have made my way thru two books about mixing over the past 10-14 days. Behind the Glass and The Mixing Engineer's Handbook. (I love to buy a few rounds of thick java at the bookstore and read for many hours! :s: )

Western Digital 8mb drives
Does anyone know how to find out what the problem wd drives with 8mb cache were? I mean like what the series were or anything. Can't find anything at WD site. I know they should be off the shelves but dont want to make the mistake of picking one up. Looking at the 80 gig, maybe 120.

Analogue vs. . digital mixing
I'm a digital daw kinda guy. I love editing audio and working with plugs etc. I love all that is good with digital...what PISSES me off about it all is mixing. It seems to take forever to get the mix happening, then when you get it, it's not quite there...there's something missing. Most stuff mixed on DAWs that I have heard has it. I don't want my stuff to have it any more.
