Drum heads

I have a couple of questions on drum heads. I'm not a drummer, but I own a Mapex M Birch set for the studio and I've been working on trying to get it sound as good as possible. I'm recording mostly folk, alt. country, jazz, etc. The two drummer that I am recording most have a pretty light touch - though I have a couple of heavy hitters in now and then.

Audio-Technica Drum Mics

Forums

Just bought one of those snare/tom mics with a short stand off a guy for 20 bucks. Are they any good? They seemed to sell for like 350 new for the kit of 4 mics and they are built and look similar to the ATM line {like tanks}. I might buy the rest of the kit off of him if I like. Thought I couldnt really beat the price i am on a very very tight budget.

Multitrack Drum recordings on Logic

I've been recording my band with MIDI/sample drums for some time now, as I don't have the equipment to record real drums. This wasn't too awful as I beame pretty good at editing on Logic, but I'm now looking to record real drums, but I'm a total noob when it comes to recording with more than just 1 input at a time!

Coffee house drum set?

I'm trying to cope with getting a drum set on a tiny stage for low volume folk/jazz coffee house gigs. We're thinking about having the drummer use a stripped down set with a snare, high hat, ride and a few traps. We'd like to include some sort of kick as well, and we're considering either a very small kick or a midi pedal. Anyone tried something like this? What have you used for a kick?
