I have NS-10M's. Is there any reason for me to sell my 10M's and Reveals (and eat the extra $ difference) for 1000M's?

When mixing several tracks, what are the basics in order to get a coherant sound? How do you go about making several seperate tracks 'blend' to sound as one musical performance? I have been experimenting with this just a bit, and would like to hear some of the more experianced folks approach. Do you use some reverb on the whole mix? Would you still use differant reverbs on differant parts etc.

OK. When mixing drums, do you mix from the drummers perspective or from audience perspective, as in if you were facing the drummer. I have a tendancy to mix from drummers perspective as I am a drummer. Does this seem odd to non-drummers?

Hey, I was wondering...if I have only 3 mics for my recording for the drums...where should I put them, kick, overhead and one snare?

And to make the sound more alive should I use reverb? or what should I do?

I have problems to get my guitars fat also...sounds like I play in a tube..any suggestions?

i'm a little stuck in the way i mix vocals (r&b and pop).

i record the main voice plus the harmonic 2nd and 3rd voice.
the main voice i pan middle at 0dB
the 2nd voice i pan -30 at -7dB
the 3rd voice i pan +30 at -7dB
now i compress all that and put some effect on it (reverb or delay)...

Here's the scenario:

8 tracks of drum audio
1 Avalon 737sp
1 finaliser
1 MOTU audio system (1x2408/1x1224)
Logic Mac

Having come from an electronic background I am relatively new to all this. I want these drums to sound warm, congealed and punchy. Basically we want them to sound like the late Barry White's "Playing your Game Baby".

Something has perplexed me for a while:

Why are mixing and mastering considered separate steps? It seems to me that a better job could be done if the separate levels and frequencies of the original source material could be adjusted during the final process to compensate for changes and correct for mistakes, as mix dynamics are being adjusted.

I'm using SONAR XL 2 and a MOTU 2048 mkii for my recording. I'm monitoring through a set of medium quality headphones. Typically, I record everything into SONAR and mix the tracks down to a WAV file.
