I'm running Cubase SX 3 on PC with 2 (two) x MOTU 828mkII units. Direct monitoring been working great... until I added another 828mkII.

Now direct monitoring works only in one 828 (always the one whose main outs are specifed in VST connections "outputs", let's call it #1). The other 828 (let's call it #2) always exhibits erratic behavior. For instance, if I load the project and the "direct monitor" button happens to be enabled in one of the #2's channels, I can monitor it only for as long as "direct monitor" remains on. As soon as I touch the "direct monitor" button to turn it off, I can never get the monitoring to work again (unless I reload the project). If I load the project and the "direct monitor" button happens to be disabled in any of the #2's channels, I can't monitor them all.

Anybody seen that before?

I spent so much time figuring out how to get multiple 828mkII's to work together (had to downgrade the firewire drivers to SP1). I can't believe I'm stuck with this little pathetic problem. I tried Cubase SX 3.1 last night. It does have a fix for direct monitoring metering but doesn't address this problem.

For starters, I'd like to figure out whether this is Steinberg's or MOTU's problem. Is anybody using more than one direct monitoring-capable interface with Cubase SX 3?
