Folks.
In 8 hours time I have to record a woman singing, unaccompanied, at a function tonight.
She wants any Micing to be "invisible". She has a huge theatrical kind of voice.
I'll be using a laptop and an Mbox2. So a 2 channel recording is it.
Mics at my disposal are:
1x TLM-103
1x MXL V67
2x AKG C-535
Preamps:
2 channels of Buzz Audio SSA 1.1
4 Channels of Sebatron VMP
(and the two Mbox pres of course, but I won't be using them)
So any advice on mic/pre combos and "invisible" mic positioning will be appreciated. I have no idea what the venue is like.
This kind of thing isn't my usual gig.

I'd try the MXL V67 on the vocals, but down away and out of the shot, if you can. Even waist or chest height might work; I've done that in a pinch. Another possibility is putting it above her head on a boom, looking down at her chin or nose from well out of the shot. (it'll keep any p's from popping, or wind blasts, etc.)
Will there be a second camera or pickup shots? Any chance of recording it once for the audio, and then having her lip sync her own voice? That could be tricky, but it might work if you have a click track or a little advance prep for that.
I"m not sure I'd use those AKG's for anything but vocals as well. You may want stereo room tone or ambience; if so I'd grab a pair of omni's for that. If budget is an issue, you could always grab a pair of SP C4's and use the omni capsules.

I've just been informed that it's not a public performance. The task is to produce a demo video of her singing one song. I'm only responsible for the audio.
So I guess that makes things a little easier :wink:
