Drum Mic Questions (Shure DMK57-52)
This summer I plan to buy some gear to get a small studio started. Nothing crazy, just a firepod, mixer and some mics (to start).

RODE NT5 vs. Audio-Technica AT3031
As subject states. I'm considering either a pair of RODE nt5's or a pair of AT3031's. Here in Vancouver Canada, the prices are as follows for each:
RODE : $495 for a stereo pair
AT's: $199 a piece ($398 pair)

RODE NT2-A for grand piano recording
I am assembling gear for recording my grand piano in my living room. The room acoustic is pretty good, fairly well damped but I think sufficiently live for a pleasing sound. I don't really want to spend too much, certainly no more than $1500. I will be using the Focusrite Sapphire with my MacBook Pro.
[Edit: I forgot to say that for near-field monitoring I am using the Blue Sky EXO.]

Room acoustics, instrument placement and mic placement.
Hello,
I'm going to record some jazz stuff(hard bop, ala Horace Silver and Bill Evans).
I have Old German Baby Grand Piano(in good condition).
Bass player with 3/4 size double bass(standard)
Drummer with 4 piece kit and 4 trad. jazz cymbals (ride, crash, hihats and splash)
I need some new mics
My Beyerdynamic M500 is blown! Beyerdynamic claims parts are not available and will not fix it; and man do I miss it. So do I buy the M260 or what. I used the M500 on my vocals and really want to try to get as close as possible to that set up ( ribbon cardiod ) so I can use it live at moderate volumes.

Mic Splitters vs. . Y Cables
I've been recording live shows for a relatively short time, with good/great results. Ive been using a mix of Y cables and running my own mics into a digi and octopre.
