Mystery of the Tube Mic
First of all: Recording.org rocks the nation.
Now, Secondly: I want to kill my new mic! I received it four days ago. Have a look.

This baby comes, as said, with its own power unit. A seven pin XLR connects the mic to the power unit. A three pin XLR connects the power unit to your input device (in my case an M-Audio Solo).

2-channel Microphone Preamp
I have checked out the DMCLs recently. They are not bad. Does anyone know whether the send/returns are balanced or not?
I am thinking of buying that thing but still hesitate. The compressor is neither very good nor very bad, IMHO. Do you think it would be a good decision getting it and adding a decent eq into the path (any options?)?

A mic brain teaser
Your cutting a rock / instrumental CD and you have a limit of 3 mics, each with a street price of $500 or less. Live drums are part of the deal. What so you pick and why?

US and European versions of mics
Hi
I've been reading about some mic companies making different versions of their mics for the US market. The Brauner Phantom is supposedly voiced differently for the US because TransAmerica group wanted a different sound. Has anyone heard about this? Is this the case for other companies?

Stereo Recording With Dissimilar Microphones?
Does anyone here do that? Is there any big downside to recording acoustic guitar or drum overheads in stereo with, say, an AKG 414TLII and a Neumann KM184?
New mics on the block
I've finally decided on a few dynamics I'm going to include in my mic closet. My dynamics as of now only include 57's... two standards and two betas (I wish I was a bit more educated when I bought the betas though). I've tried to include as many quality, practical, and useful dynamic mics as I could in my price range (1200) and this is what I've come up with.

Preamp, Studio Projects C1, Neumann u87
Hi,
First of all a big greetz to all ! GREETZ !
(well it's kinda big :P)
Anyways I'm the new kid on the block and why not begin with a idiotic request :p:
I'm wondering if I could hear the difference between a good and a bad pre-amp ( or between 2 different pre-amp's ).
So does anyone have sound files where you can clearly hear the difference?

Suitable Condenser mic for Universal Audio 6176?
Hi Guys,
Just wonder if anyone can recommend a mic that works well with a Universal Audio 6176? For example Neumann U87, Sony C800G etc. Is that a great combination? Thinking of buying a great microphone. Until now I have used some cheaper ones, not getting the sound that I want. So if anyone has any ideas please let me know.
Thanks
M
