those high-end vintage mic remakes

Forums

hi guys, i've been reading a lot about companies that do expensive remakes of the old classic mics (U47, C12, ELAM 251 etc), but unfortunately the majority of the info i can find comes from the companies own web sites or web sites that sell the brands. obviously not the least biased information. i've been checking out designs by wagner, korby and soundelux.

Does the fullness of a vocal track come most from mic, pre,or

Forums

Does the fullness of a vocal track come most from mic, pre, or comp? Here's my problem. I do rock vocals AKG 414 B-uls to ISA 428 to Distressor brit mode engaged in the opto-compressor setting. The vocals are kinda thin and brittle sounding. My guess is the mic. I am trying to find another mic that would fatten up the vocals. Anyways, any thoughts much appreciated.

RMEquadmic vs Apogeemini mp ratio

Forums

I have the opportunity to buy 2 brand new Apogee MINI MPs for $899.
I was thinking about just buying a quadmic for my 4 channel location recordings for $489.
What is a better deal in this case.
Has somebody tryed the MINI MPs.
I have the octamic already so quadmic info is not needed.I know how it sound already.ANd I am very happy with it.

RODE K2 w/ Sebatron VMP?

Forums

Have any of you tried the RODE K2 w/ the Sebatron VMP? tube on tube can be overkill, I know. This is definitely for a particular application type of thing...I'm a subtle singer who goes for a definate vintage vibe.

I'd love to hear some soundclips, even if it's another tube mic being grouped with the Sebatron , like the SP T3 (something in this lower/mid price range)

Do mics degrade over time?

Forums

I was at the AT website, and they were talking about how their mics were built to not degrade, and would sound the same down the road.

Is this BS, or is a cheap mic likely to change sound over time?

Have any of you ever pulled the mic out of the closet, fired it up, and then compared the tracks to ones you did 10 years ago and noticed a big difference?

Jest curious
