Stable DAW considerations..

Hello all,

this is my first post to this forum.

I am about to build a DAW for mastering purposes, and I want the machine to be as stable as possible. There will not be any other use for it - running Samplitude, burning CD's and twiddling around with 2-trk audio will be the only use for it.

This is a system I've been thinking of:

cymbals?

I have a cheap drum to record that i got from an old friend and there is only one cymbal and it is written crash/ride 18/45. I want to get another one but I'm not sure if i should use the one i already have as a ride and buy a crash, or the other way around. Can someone help me figure this out and also maybe help me figure out how to choose once in the music store. Im really new to this.

MacOSX, MIDI, and the Tascam FW-1884

I just got the Tascam FW-1884 last week. I hooked it up to my computer. I use Digital Performer (version 4.12) with it. Previously, I had a M-Audio Midiman 4x4 that did my MIDI. The computer is a digital audio G4 with 2x533Mhz proc's and 1.1 GB of RAM. It has MacOS X.3, but was upgraded from X.2. (X.2 was a fresh install however)

Ramsa DA7 mixer?

I am considering picking one up from a local shop.

Its got two Tascam cards loaded into it.
Are there adapters to connect TDIF to ADAT?

What would be a good deal on this mixer and are there any issues that would steer me away from this mixer?

I am looking into eventually getting a hard disk recorder. as opposed to my computer for a portable recording rig.
