I'm really curious to find out how many members here record everything direct except for basically guitar and vocals? ( welcome to the new world of quality preamps though)

How many can you use in one computer?
Do they work on macs?
How are the quality of the converters compared to stuff by aardvark or motu?

I already have a rockin DAW that I built for a home studio but now I am in the market for a home system that I will be using mostly for internet and photoshop. I won't be doing much recording so I don't need a super powerful machine and I'm on a much stricter budget this time around (under $400 not including monitor).

Can digital processors such as Empiral Lab's FATSO, or CRane Song Hedd come close to what a 1/2 tape machine can do such as the Studer A820 or the Ampex ATR 102? I speculated that the digital processors would can be more transparent. I want to avoid buying a used tape machine that brakes down every few months, and the high maintance of owning a tape machine.

Anyone out there have experience with the modded c414b by audio upgrades?

This is just a general question on performance. I'd like to know what would it take with the current products (ie:MB, Processors, DDR, AGP Card & very reliable & quality SC) on the market, if one had the chance to get their hands on the best/fastest components, what would you pick to build the best PC DAW capable of numerous audio tracks, what would it be?

In config. my new DAW I am curious as to the diff. between the Intel 865PE and the 875? I am looking @ the Gigabyte 8IPE1000 (865PE chipset) or the Gigabyte 8IK1100 (875 Chip). I have heard that the 875 still has bugs. Again I would like to know what differrances exist and whether Gigabyte is a solid choice (I always have had Asus'...),

I have a really silly question, and I'm actually quite suprised that i don't know the answer to this, but perhaps i am not alone.

I have an allen & heath zone 62 mixer, on the back i have booth out, record out, main mix out, etc... and of course "Aux Out".

Now, i know most equipment (audio and video?) comes equipped with these "Aux Outputs".

ie using it as if it were a 24 track tape machine and hooking it up to an analog mixer.
