Hardware vs Software Compressors
Forums
I have a dbx DDP rack compressor/limiter and the Waves NPP compressor. I'm interested in finding out from another point of view, if one had a choice of the 2, which one would be better? I'm setting up to lay a few backup & adlib vocal tracks as well as main vocals too.

G4 or G5
Forums
Howdy
Every now and then, you see some of the dual-boot G4s out there. Apple had them last week for a song (I think $1299) and I missed out.
I'm still mainly an OS9 guy but have been using X more and more. If you were going to buy a new Mac within the next couple of months, would you get a G4 or G5 and why?

gain of external AD?
Forums
Hi,
I was thinking of buying a TC triple C stereo compressor to use as a...well... compressor, but also 'by passed'as an external AD converter feeding my Emagic Audio8 card. The TC can be put to dithering when recording which is fine because the AW8's digi-in is 16 bits only. Would I gain better recording this way or would it be marginal only?
Thanks guys!
Macmod.

ram (2 sticks or one)
Forums
I'm Building a DAW and I'm planning to get 512MB either Corsair or Kingston DDR400 3200. Both of the models i'v had a look at have a CAS of 2.5.
One person has told me that it is better to get 2 sticks of 256 because data can be sent to two sticks quicker than one. I've also herd that it is better to go with one stick of 512MB ram.
What is the right answer?

Question about search engine?
Forums
Hi!
I'm brand new here. The last thing I want to do is annoy everyone with questions that have been answered dozens of times. So I was glad to see the search function.
Except I'm not sure how to do a general search through all the different categories? Is this possible, or do I have to search through all twenty sub-forums (or however many there are) one at a time?

Good sources for Narration Tips
Forums
After reading through the boards I notice a lack of discussion of narration and the best method for 'sweetening' narration or voice over tracks. Any good tips pages I should be looking at, or other guides?
Thanks,
Todd

ATTN: Sonofsmawg - your wisdom sought
Forums
You were recommended from someone at harmonycentral because you have a lot of experience with the motherboard (A7N8x by ASUS)
I wish to use to build my DAW.
Any advice or warnings you can offer would be grrrreat!
I am about to build a DAW and thought I would solicit some basic advice. I am thinking about basing the system on the

Sebatron 1000e?
Forums
Sebatron ,
Did you ever decide if it would be worth (economically) to put out a single channel version of the 2000e/4000e and if so, what it might sell for?

Tempo Dependant Delays ?
Forums
K, I know there's the whole trail and error method(which sucks). I also know there is a formula for tempo dependant delays. I've used it once before, but someone else just rambled me the formula, I punched it in and didn't really have all that much time to take note of it.

pro tools/mbox laptop nightmare

so i'm now auditioning a 3rd screamer laptop for use with the mbox/PTLE package i bought, and it doesn't seem to perform very well either. do any damn laptops perform well with pro tools?aparently PT is very picky about chipsets (intel only), and i have gone to the added expense of upgrading my purchase 3 times with no discernable gain...
