Monitors (warning: dumb question)
OK, I am a dumbass.
Help me understand near-field monitors. I am setting up a home studio (largely for recording our band.) I had planned on plugging my DAW into my harmon kardon amp and powering two JBL bookshelf speakers and two larger american acoustic speakers. My thought was that I would be able to a/b large and small speakers while mixing.

digital recording levels
In more than one post Bill Roberts has stated that a mix should go to the mastering engineer at -6 db. Does that mean that I should record each track at -6 db also? Or should I try to get the maximum signal I can on each track and then mix to -6 db?

extra clip for a 421?
Does anyone have an extra clip for a Sennheiser 421 that they'd be willing to sell me? It's the old model, the U-5. I got a good deal on the mic but it didn't have a clip.
thanks,
Nick

the SP VTB-1 verses the Summit 2BA-221?
does anyone have experience with these two pre's? I know they share the solid state/tube technology.
other than price: Studio Projects VTB-1($179.00)vs. the Summit 2BA-221($500ish) do they compare sound wise?
thanks

What cymbals do you use?
I was wondering, what are your favorite cymbals to use for recording?

Using different size HD ok for recovery?
I had a computer put together a while back from Soundchaser. It's been flawless until recently. Every once in a while the OS drive will make some crazy noises and I will get a hard drive failure notice with no boot up... Then after five minutes it might boot up again.

Small Hi Quality Console? (Bill warned me in the fall)
I am looking for that kind of thing to use primarily for mix down. The smaller the better (size-wise).
