I'm getting a laptop for running Logic Audio, with either a MOTU or RME interface. I'll mainly be using it for (hopefully) lots of EXS24s plus other virtual instruments and only a few (<8) tracks of continuous audio as I have a seperate system for audio.

is there anybody still using ADATs? I kept an LX 20 for Back Ups of my hard-disk recorders. I need to back up my hard-drives today and the machine simply won't record. All tracks record enabled, press Rec. and Play the thing starts to roll but the rec. button keeps blinking and nothing is recorded. Anyone knows this problem or has dealt with it? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Let me try to explain what I'm looking for.

Multi-band compression is fun and can bring out the sparkle in a recording, but I hate the lack of control of EXACTLY what happens, plus the fact its added late (generally in mastering) as a sort of "Band aid" thing.

Firstly, I want band prioritizing. For example, take a kickdrum. Its a "Klick" and a "boom". Fine.

BUT

I am now reformatting a 3 disk softraid system which HAS to be NTFS...is there a benefit to formatting these at 64k? what would be ideal?

Hello all, this is my first post, but I've reading here and there the last few days . You have a nice place here :-)

After looking at various monitors, I noticed that a pair of JBL mid-fields and the Mackie HR824 near-fields were about the same size. If I'm looking for my main set of monitors, should I be going with strictly mid-fields? Is most of the work being done in studios using near-fields? I did some searching on the web but didn't see an answer.
