AKG coming out with a "new" 451

AKG is going to make a new version of the 451. No teeny threads on the capsule. I think they will be non-removable capsules, cardioid only (BOO).

The electronics are descended from the AKG Blue Line, and there will be 2 low cuts, and a 2 position attenuator, unlike the screw-in capacitive pads that Stephen Paul says messed up the frequency response on original 451's.

AKG CK12

Hi there,
I'm trying to understand why a good C12 sounds the way it does. Of course, the main thing is the capsule. From the info I gathered, the contruction was quite complicated and involved many parts and a lot of precision work to get it right. Even if consistency from sample to sample wasn't great, most old CK12 capsules were/are certainly better than AKG's own modern CK12.

So I'm looking to buy a good vocal mic with switchable patterns for use as overheads, room mic, and experimentation. I live in NYC and don't know of a dealer that could supply all three. I suppose, from what I've heard, that the 414B-ULS isn't worth the money though I did like the one I used last year. Can anyone either recommend a dealer in the area or give advice on any of these mics?
