Hi Folks. Newbie time. We are looking at getting some compression generally for drums. We have a MOTU 2408 and are running Digital Performer 3.1 with an Allen and Heath 16 channel board (that's about it for mic preamp's and - almost any other outboard gear).

This is my first venture into recording. It is for fun, not profit. I did not want to buy specialized equipment like shot gun mics for people talking and then condenser mics for people singing.

I have a friend who has an analog 4 track and he is looking to get some pre's that operate phantom power and are a little better.

He's only recording one track at a time...

Anyone had a chance to play around with one of these little buggers? I know PreSonus's quality is not top-notch, but I had a Blue Tube that did a serviceable job on some tracks. At $99, these parametrics are pretty enticing. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Not meaning to be rude but i'd like to exclude mac users. (nice ryme) Does or has anyone incorporated a firewire set up with there PC DAW?

Does aynone have knowledge of a new piece of equipment from PreSonus called MAXRACK. I've seen pictures of it on a german website.

Anybody used this mic preamp?
What's the consensus?
Improvement over Mackie XDR's?

Are they any good? If they are better than the pre's on my Yamaha O1V I'm considering buying them. I know The DigiMAXes are 24 bit, and the O1V are 20 bit, but something tells me that does not necessarely mean they're better...

Have anyone heard those units? The one from Swissonic has 115db dynamic range and the one from PreSonus is 110db. The Swissonic ones goes for 24/48 and the PreSonus goes 24/96, both around $700... what do you guys think?

I'd like to add some flavor and color to my synth rig by running them through a DI. The dbx and PreSonus boxes are both 2 ch units that could do the job. Anybody tried it? I know I could get an Aguilar DI for about the same dough but thats just a single ch. What's your opinions
