old acoustic guitar strings vs new for recording

I have heard it said more than once that fresh strings are a prerequisite for a recording session. Being one who changes their strings fairly often, this is never a problem. But the other day, I picked up a used guitar that was quite inexpensive due to some issues, and decided to record it, before doing anything to it other than truss rod adjustment.

Best Way to Record Acoustic Guitar?

I have an Ibanez acoustic electric and an Audio-Technica AT3035 condenser mic. I've been getting half decent sounds mixing with the Ibanez' preamp/eq for straight in recording and with just Micing the guitar, but it could be much better. Maybe there's a low budget mic good for picking up acoustic guitar, I don't know.

Any tips on recording Pedal Steel guitar?

I am having trouble with a fellow who plays a Showbud pedal steel guitar. He is not happy with the sound he is getting from the guitar ( a high 2.5 - 4K raspy sound ).
I have tried to remove some of the frequencies with the EQ and removing the high-endoff the amp,,, any suggestions, other than telling him to buy a new steel?
Any help would be appreciated.

My huge slide guitar is too huge!

Hi! Thanks for dropping by this thread.

I have a problem in recording my slide guitar. It sounds huge - so huge, in fact, that it dominates the entire mix. Either that or I have to turn it down too low to be heard.

So, I've tried FX and no FX, compression, a condenser, a dynamic, and a ribbon, a limiter, and EQ. None have worked, although they did change the sound.
