help Micing a venue for room/crowd sound.
Hello,
I'm planning to record a live show as multitracks.
I have to set my pair of RODE NT5 to get the room/crowd sound.
How would you set up those mics?
high? pointing the stage? Pointing the audience?
ORTF? X-Y ?
Well, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
-Barnee.

Micing a Bosendorfer grand...pendelum MDP1 or Grace 201?
I am a prosumer recordist sticking my toe in the sacred waters of real deal gear. I want to upgrade my fathers recording setup. He is a quite successful artist producing solo piano CDs. cocktailpiano.com
records his elegant playing on a bosendorfer 7 ft grand with a RODE nt1 a senny 421 through about a 350 ART preamp.
obviously time for a step up.
Micing techniques using Figure-8 Ribbons...
I've got a pair of Royer R-121's on the way (to play with before I make the financial leap to a SF-1.) I've used Figure-8 (on a pair of Shure KSM44 LDC) in Blumlein, half a MS rig, and as a semi coincident pair.
I've got both choral and organ gigs this week where I can experiment a big (supplement the main rig.)

Guitar Sound v. Micing Technique
I'm trying to get a GREAT metal guitar sound with the equipment i've got. The problem i'm having is the sound i record is somewhat muddy and not "tight." I'm not sure if my problem is the guitar tone i have now(which sounds great in my basement where we're recording) or the mic placement.

Micing an acoustical ensemble and soloist for radio
I want to know what others would suggest. I am doing a radio show. It is being done live and recorded on a multitrack DAW. One problem I am running into on the show is the Micing of the chorus (all 17 of them) and the soloist. Currently I am using an AKG D 3800M for the soloist and a crossed coincident pair of AT 4051s for the backing chorus of 17 people.
Ambient Micing Techniques
This Sunday I’m recording a chamber ensemble in a 450-seat auditorium. I’ve got my main pair figured out, but thought I would try hanging a pair of microphones off the balcony to record the audience and get some ambient sounds that I can blend into the main mix. These mics would be about 30 feet or so from the lip of the stage.
