Suitable Condenser mic for Universal Audio 6176?

Forums

Hi Guys,

Just wonder if anyone can recommend a mic that works well with a Universal Audio 6176? For example Neumann U87, Sony C800G etc. Is that a great combination? Thinking of buying a great microphone. Until now I have used some cheaper ones, not getting the sound that I want. So if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks
M

I bought a UA 6176, opened it and big surprise...

Hello,

I bought yesterday a NEW preamp 6176, not second hand!

But there was somthing inside that was making noise when I was moving it like a screw or something like that.

I wanted to be sure and then I opened the box.

First I found the stuff inside, a 2mm piece of metal but I don't know what it is :

2 NTKs into a UA 2-610...too much tube?

I'm at the decision point for either picking up a pair of decent small or medium diaphram condensers (probably Gefell M 300) and a preamp like the UA 2-610. or
A second NTK large diaphram mic and a good solid state preamp (suggestions?).
Or,...Is it conceivable that I can get a good sound out of the NTKs into the 2-610? I've heard cautions about going tube into tube.

Which UAD-1 plugs considered essential?

. I've heard good about the Pultec and the LA-2A . .

I havn't bought yet and I am deciding between the project and studio paks...

the plugs I'm using are the Kjuher(sp?)-audio classic series plugs, and from what I've read and heard the UA plugs should be quite an improvement.

so, which plugs would i get the most immediate bennefit from?

is it worth passing up on a UAD for a 2.0 1GB?

if you had a choice of getting a dual 1.8 w/ 1GB to run a UAD flawlessly or passing on the UAD to get a 2.0 w/ 1GB, which would you choose?

Will the CPU and front bus make that great of a difference?

I really love access to those plugins and i hear it runs poorly on the pci-x slots in the 2.0s+
