hey!
i've narrowed most of the stuff i want!
had basically decided on the MOTU 828 mkII but now i see the 896HD as dropped it's price to around 996$!
just a bit more than the 828 mkII... so... do you think it's worth it?
maintiger? do you?
one thing i don't understand is this...
the 896 doesn't have an optical in right? just the 8 pres and the ADAT right?
maintiger you say you connect to your 828 via optical the rosetta 200 for the overdubs and most important tracks...
with the 896HD i couldn't do this right?

The 896HD has this audio I/O:

8 analog IN Nuetrix (with pre-amps, bypass pre-amp if desired)
10 analog Outs (XLR)
1 stereo out (phono jack)
8 IN/Out ADAT optical
1 stereo IN/OUT AES/EBU
--
18 IN
22 OUT

So, the ADAT connection is optical (lightpipe). Should suit your needs.

I should mention- one of the most useful features is the Cuemix busing that it allows. 4 separate mix buses (each made from all 18 inputs) assigned to 4 separate stereo outs. Its great for making monitor mixes for any live-multitracking.

Hmmm, according to MOTU's website, cuemix has been upgraded to 8 mix buses.
