Guitar reverb

I need encouraging. I'm after the 'Shadows-guitar' type reverb effect. You know, sixties type of thing. Now I'm considering two different approaches: the better sounding is to record already effected guitar sound, I just love what a good old Voice combo does to a reverb/delay effect.

G & L Guitars

Does anyone have any experience with G & L guitars ? If so what do you think, pros, cons, etc. In particular the G & L strat styles.
I've been looking at picking up a new axe, and lite upon G & L, I saw some in a store, they sound ok, but that's just in the store, so really can't tell.

Reference recordings for acoustic guitar and vocals

I've been recording a few singer/songwriter types recently. Mostly steel string acoustic guitar and vocals. What do you use for reference recordings for this type of music when trying to listen to monitors and get a fix on the sound of a room? I've found that I don't consider some of my favorites in this genre terribly well recorded.
