Think I May Be Micing Wrong...
Or maybe I'm just wrong. Just got my pair of SM's today YAY! SM57 and 58 are now mine. I tried Micing two rhythm parts on this song I'm starting, but it sounds really dark, even when I roll off bass and boost highs. (I don't like boosting or cutting more than 3 or 4 dB usually)

Senses Fail: Still Searching - Guitar Micing techniques.
Hello,
I've been listening to different recordings to listen for guitar sounds, and I am really in love with the guitar sounds on Senses Fail's Still Searching. Does anyone know what type of mics, a/d, daw, or anything used in the recording of these guitars?
Thank you.
Is the NT55 a good idea for Micing a violin ?
Hi guys,
I need a mic to record my violin. Does anybody have any experience with the RODE NT55 ?
Guitar Micing question
I have a Senneiser e609 and when I mic my cabinet I have to crank the volume really loud to get some decent output BUT when I just talk in the mic it pics up everything just fine.
I run it through a firebox and have to put the gain all the way up. I'm placing the mic right against the cab in the middle of the bottom part of the speaker.
Am I placing the mic wrong?

XY Micing question.
XY pattern mics are usually shown at 90 degrees. Is there something inherently good or necessary about the precise value of 90 degrees?

Observation on Micing electric guitar cabinets.
A short time ago, I posted a question about the necessity of recording electric guitar at high SPL (something I had read many times). The responses were in agreement, and several reasons were given as to why a miced guitar amp records better at loud volumes, including the stress of maxed out speakers and tubes.
Working on Micing drums
Ok still working on my drums especially the OH's, I have the mics fairly close to the mix now and recorded a live mix, let me know if you hear any harsh reflections or phase issues
